Using abstracts to choose relevant articles

The abstract sums up the key ideas in the article. You can read the abstract to establish whether you think the article will be useful to you or not.

A good abstract includes the following information:

  • statement of the problem and the importance of the research
  • how the research was conducted (methodology)
  • the results of the research and the implications of the findings
